Golf Course Architect
Joel Goldstrand (1939–2022) was a University of Houston alum and former PGA Tour player who became a highly productive golf course designer in the Upper Midwest. After serving 16 years as head pro at Minneapolis Golf Club, he transitioned to full‑time design work in 1989, ultimately contributing to or designing nearly 100 courses across Minnesota and surrounding states.
He became a member of the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame in recognition of his impact. His work includes the prairie‑links style Wildflower Golf Course near Detroit Lakes (1993), among many others.
Goldstrand was known for blending natural topography—prairies, oak savannahs, rolling hills—with thoughtful routing and minimal earthmoving, often working within modest budgets to deliver engaging, context‑sensitive designs.
