The main facility comprises 27 championship holes, allowing three 18-hole combinations, plus the separate nine-hole par-3 Shark Waters course. Origins

Eastern traces its origins to 1896. It established a new course at Doncaster in 1924 and remained associated with that area for decades before members began examining relocation options in the 2000s.

The official opening at Yering marked Greg Norman Golf Course Design's 100th international course project.

Design Philosophy

For the Yering property, Greg Norman Golf Course Design sought to work with the Yarra Valley topography and preserve views and natural features. The routing uses three loops of nine that return to the clubhouse, allowing different 18-hole combinations.

Development

Members voted to pursue relocation after a lengthy planning process. Eastern moved to Yering in July 2015, with the new course officially opened by Greg Norman in October. A further nine championship holes opened in 2016, bringing the main course to 27 holes, and the separate Shark Waters par-3 course followed as another component of the project.

Today

Eastern is a private member club. Golf access is mainly for members and guests staying at Yering Gorge Cottages, with limited opportunities for eligible interstate and overseas visitors.
