About Flagg Creek Golf Course

Flagg Creek Golf Course is a public nine-hole, par-33 course in Countryside, Illinois, jointly owned by the Pleasant Dale Park District and City of Countryside. The present course opened on July 2, 1993 after architect Greg Martin completely redesigned the former Maple Crest property. Its nine holes comprise four par 4s, four par 3s and one par 5, with three sets of tees.

The facility also has a substantial practice operation with bentgrass range tees, six target greens, a short-game practice area and golf instruction. The clubhouse includes a bar, seasonal outdoor deck and banquet facilities. Flagg Creek's history predates the current layout: the property began as the 18-hole Maple Crest in the 1920s, was reduced to 12 holes when construction of the Tri-State Tollway affected the site in the 1950s, and was later preserved from proposed redevelopment through local public acquisition.

The course is a 9-hole golf course. Designed by Greg Martin, the course originally opened in 1993. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Short Game Practice Area, Golf Instruction, Bar, Outdoor Deck, Banquet Facility.

Origins

Golf on the property dates to the early 1920s, when the Robert Henry family developed an 18-hole course called Maple Crest. Construction of the Tri-State Tollway in the mid-1950s took part of the property, reducing Maple Crest to an unusual 12-hole layout.

Did You Know?
The predecessor Maple Crest became a 12-hole course after construction of the Tri-State Tollway reduced the property in the 1950s.

Development

During the late 1980s developers sought to acquire the property for condominium and retail development. Local residents organized the 'I Helped Save Maple Crest Golf Course' campaign, and the Pleasant Dale Park District and City of Countryside ultimately acquired the property. Architect Greg Martin then removed the former 12-hole routing and created an entirely new nine-hole course.

The first official round at the renamed Flagg Creek Golf Course was played on July 2, 1993.

Today

Flagg Creek remains jointly owned by the Pleasant Dale Park District and City of Countryside. The nine-hole, par-33 layout is supported by a practice range with bentgrass tees, six target greens and a short-game area, together with clubhouse food, beverage and event facilities.
