About Golf Club de Sion

The current course was designed by Peter Harradine and inaugurated in 2002, replacing a temporary nine-hole layout that opened in 1995. Harradine's design occupies approximately 43 hectares on the Rhône valley floor and uses broad fairways, generous greens and existing landscape features such as mature trees, canals and prevailing wind rather than excessive artificial hazards.

Origins

Local golfers established a driving range in Sion in 1978. A larger golf project developed during the 1980s and 1990s, with Jean-Louis Tronchet creating an initial nine-hole plan.

Did You Know?
The project took decades to progress from the first local driving-range initiative to the completed 18-hole course.

Design Philosophy

Peter Harradine deliberately avoided unnecessary artificial hazards and used wide fairways, generous greens, existing trees, canals and wind to create strategic difficulty.

Development

A temporary nine-hole course opened in 1995. Construction approval for Harradine's 18-hole course followed in 2000, and the completed layout was inaugurated in 2002.

Today

Golf Club de Sion operates its 18-hole course, practice complex and clubhouse in the Rhône valley and accepts visitor play.
