Gunung Raya was developed on more than 300 acres of former rubber-plantation land at the foot of the mountain from which it takes its name.
Max Wexler used the broad plantation property to create two contrasting nines. The outward nine has comparatively generous landing areas, while the inward nine tightens the targets and brings water into play more frequently.
The course remains an 18-hole resort and visitor golf facility on Langkawi, supported by clubhouse dining, changing facilities and conference space.
