Headfort's Championship Course, also widely called the New Course, is an 18-hole, par-72 parkland layout at the 36-hole Headfort Golf Club near Kells. Christy O'Connor Jr. designed the course, which opened in 2000.
The routing makes extensive use of the Headfort Estate's mature woodland and the River Blackwater, including crossings of the river and play around two islands. Published course information places the championship configuration at roughly 6,484 metres, or about 7,090 yards, with shorter tees available. The New Course must be kept separate from Headfort's Old Course, which dates to the club's earlier development and has different yardages and ratings.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,490m (7,098 yards). Designed by Christy O'Connor Jr., the course originally opened in 2000. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Suite, Putting green, Pitching green, Chipping green, Practice bunker, Pro shop, Clubhouse, Restaurant, and 2 more.
Headfort Golf Club's original golf dates to the early 20th century, but the Championship/New Course represents a later expansion of the club into a 36-hole facility. Christy O'Connor Jr. was commissioned to design the second course, which opened in 2000.
O'Connor used the estate's mature broadleaf trees, woodland and River Blackwater as integral routing elements. The course crosses the river multiple times and makes use of two islands, while Headfort House and the estate's established tree collection form part of its setting.
The Championship Course operates alongside Headfort's separate Old Course. Visitors can play both layouts, and the club provides dedicated short-game practice areas and other golf facilities.
