What is well established is that the course became part of the golf landscape around Logan, serving a region better known nationally for its wooded hills, rock formations and state-park recreation.
The club directly credits Jack Kidwell with shaping the rolling property into the present layout. Kidwell's broader career helps explain the course's practical character: the American Society of Golf Course Architects describes him as a designer who frequently worked with limited budgets and placed importance on courses that were fundamentally sound, maintainable and enjoyable to play. At Hocking Hills, elevation is used repeatedly rather than flattened away.
The official course tour documents uphill and downhill approaches, shots across valleys, several doglegs and greens positioned around natural changes in terrain. Water enters play on multiple holes, while mature trees and bunkering provide additional definition. The 6,037-yard Blue routing is short by modern championship standards but includes six par threes and five par fives, producing a distinctive par-71 sequence rather than relying on excessive overall length.
The property is now owned by Zac and Lauren Loomis, who also operate the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls. Independent reporting places their acquisition of Hocking Hills Golf Club a few years after purchasing the inn in 2019, and Zac Loomis publicly identifies his ownership of the golf club from 2021. Under current ownership, the golf operation has been tied more closely to the area's lodging and tourism business, with stay-and-play accommodation promoted alongside the course.
The club has also completed improvements including renovated golf-cart paths.
Hocking Hills Golf Club operates as a public 18-hole facility with online tee-time booking, memberships and daily-fee play. Current amenities include a practice range, putting green, Pro Shop and the Urban Grille, which serves lunch and dinner with a full bar. The 2026 rate structure includes separate walking and cart rates for nine and 18 holes, plus weekday twilight pricing.
The club continues to maintain formal handicapping affiliation through the Ohio Golf Association and participates in Youth on Course.
