Golf Course Architect
Jack Kidwell (1917/1918–2001) was an Ohio‑based golf course architect celebrated for designing or renovating over 100 courses, with a strong focus on public layouts that emphasized playability, low cost, and maintainability. A natural golfer raised as a caddie, he purchased and operated a nine‑hole course with his family in the late 1930s before launching his architecture career in the late 1950s.
He co‑founded the firm Kidwell & Hurdzan in 1976 and served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1979–1980. His design philosophy stressed simplicity, efficient maintenance, and enjoyment for average golfers.
