About Island Hills Golf Club

Island Hills Golf Club is an 18-hole public course in Centreville, Michigan, designed by Raymond Hearn and opened in 1999. The championship layout extends to approximately 7,074 yards from the back tees, playing to par 72 with a published 73.9 course rating and 135 slope. The 220-acre property changes character repeatedly, moving through open meadow and prairie, hardwood forest, farmland and views toward Lake Templene.

After Bob and JoJo Griffioen acquired the club around 2009, Hearn returned to update his original design. Because the purchase included only 17 of the original holes, Hearn designed a replacement par three through wooded ground incorporating the remains of an old farm structure. He also repositioned bunkers and tees and reduced maintained fairway acreage.

The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 72, 7,074 yards, course rating 73.9 and slope rating 135. Designed by Raymond Hearn, the course originally opened in 1999. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Club Hire, Restaurant, Bar, Accommodation.

Origins

Raymond Hearn designed Island Hills, which opened in 1999 on a large property adjoining Lake Templene.

Did You Know?
A replacement par-three hole was created after new ownership acquired only 17 holes of the original course.

Design Philosophy

The routing deliberately moves through contrasting environments including meadow, prairie, hardwoods, farmland and lake-edge ground. Hearn used multiple tee positions to provide different angles and lengths.

Development

After Bob and JoJo Griffioen bought the club around 2009, Hearn was brought back for a substantial makeover. He created a replacement par three, repositioned bunkers and tees, recalibrated risk-reward decisions and reduced maintained fairway acreage from roughly 47 to 35 acres.

Today

Island Hills operates as a public championship course with lodging, practice facilities and daily-fee golf.
