Golf Course Architect
Raymond (Ray) Hearn is an American golf course architect based in Holland, Michigan, who founded Raymond Hearn Golf Course Designs, Inc. He earned dual degrees—Landscape Architecture and Turfgrass Science—at Michigan State University as an Evans Scholar, and worked his way into golf architecture via roles like superintendent before launching his firm.
Over more than twenty years he has specialized in restoration, renovation, and new design work across public, private, resort, and municipal golf courses nationwide, drawing on a classic Golden Age–inspired aesthetic while adapting to modern environmental and strategic considerations. His renovation of Mistwood Golf Club earned Golf Magazine’s Best US Public Renovation of the Year Award; his work at Waters Edge Golf Course won a 2018 ASGCA Design Excellence Award; and Hemlock Golf Club, a new championship public course, was recognized by Golf Digest among the best affordable new public courses.
