Kilmore Golf Club is an 18-hole community golf course on Anderson Road in Kilmore, Victoria. Golf has been played on the site for more than a century: Mitchell Shire heritage documentation records the formation of golf links in 1911 on land previously used as the town's Police Paddock. The course forms part of Kilmore's historic outdoor recreation precinct around Monument Hill, the former reservoir and cricket ground.
The men's layout is a par 70 measuring 5,522 yards (5,049 metres), with a published course rating of 68.2, while the women's layout is a par 72 measuring 5,174 yards (4,731 metres) with a rating of 72. The routing includes four par-3 holes and two par-5 holes from the men's tees. The course occupies gently undulating, tree-lined terrain and includes established vegetation associated with the wider heritage precinct.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 70, 5,049m (5,522 yards). The course originally opened in 1911. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Practice Bunker, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Club Hire, Motor Cart Hire, Pull Cart Hire, and 1 more.
The course is part of a much older recreational landscape on the eastern side of Kilmore. Mitchell Shire heritage documentation identifies the land as part of the former Police Paddock, associated with Kilmore's early policing history from the 1850s. Golf links were formed there by Kilmore Golf Club in 1911, establishing a sporting use that the heritage study records as continuing on the site ever since.
The golf course developed alongside other long-established community recreation areas around the former reservoir, Kilmore Cricket Ground and Monument Hill.
The course became one element of what is now recognised as the Kilmore Outdoor Recreation Precinct. The wider landscape underwent significant beautification works in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including tree planting in 1895 and again around 1924. Heritage documentation identifies mature Monterey pines and Monterey cypresses associated with the golf course and neighbouring recreation grounds as contributing features of the precinct.
The course also incorporates land once occupied by the Kilmore Rifle Club range at the base of Monument Hill. Over time Kilmore developed into an 18-hole course with watered playing surfaces while retaining its relationship with the reservoir, Monument Hill and the surrounding historic open-space network.
Mitchell Shire's planning scheme identifies the golf course as a contributing component of the culturally significant Kilmore Outdoor Recreation Precinct. The precinct is valued for the continuous community use of the area for outdoor recreation from the nineteenth century onward and for the relationship between the golf links, cricket ground, former reservoir, Monument Hill, walking tracks and established vegetation.
Kilmore Golf Club remains an active community golf club on Anderson Road. The course has 18 holes, with the men's layout playing to par 70 over 5,522 yards and the women's layout to par 72 over 5,174 yards. Visitors are accepted, and the club supports both organised competition and social golf.
The course continues to occupy the historic recreation landscape established more than a century ago beneath Monument Hill.
