About Leven Links Golf Course

Leven Links is an 18-hole traditional links course on the Fife coast at Leven, with organised golf on the ground dating to 1846 and play in the wider area extending even earlier. The present White course measures 6,551 yards at par 71, with a course rating of 72.4 and slope of 132. Yellow and Red rated tees provide shorter alternatives.

Leven's architecture has evolved through several eras. Old Tom Morris was involved in extending the historic Leven course to 18 holes in 1868, when the links continued east beyond the Mile Dyke into ground later associated with Lundin. Growing golfer numbers eventually forced the shared links to be divided in 1909.

The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 71, 6,551 yards, course rating 72.4 and slope rating 132. The course originally opened in 1846. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Chipping Area, Practice Bunker, Caddie Service, Golf Cart Rental, Pull Cart Rental, Clubhouse, Restaurant, and 1 more.

Origins

Golf was being played on the Leven links by the mid-19th century, with Leven Golf Club formed in 1846. The original ground occupied the western side of the Mile Dyke.

Did You Know?
Leven is thought to have been among the first courses to use 18 separate tees and 18 separate greens rather than shared putting surfaces.

Development

Old Tom Morris extended the course to 18 holes in 1868, creating a combined links that continued eastward into the area later associated with Lundin. By 1909 the number of golfers made that shared arrangement impractical, and the course was divided at the Mile Dyke. Leven created a new 18-hole layout on its western side, but the Leven Golfing Society's own historical account states that the designer of this work is not known with certainty.

Recognition

Leven Links has hosted Final Open Qualifying six times, including fields featuring players who later became major championship and Ryder Cup figures.

Today

Leven Links remains shared by Leven Golfing Society and Leven Thistle Golf Club and is operated for both club and visitor golf.
