About Lincoln Golf Club

Lincoln Golf Club is an historic Lincolnshire club founded in 1891. H. Taylor designed the new course.

The sandy subsoil at Torksey was a central reason for the site's suitability for golf and continues to support year-round playability. The modern course is an 18-hole layout playing to par 71, with white, yellow, red and winter tee systems. Lincoln hosted the England Boys Under-14 Reid Trophy in 2022.

The course is an 18-hole heathland golf course. Designed by J. H. Taylor, the course originally opened in 1891. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Restaurant, Bar, Full Membership, Corporate Membership, Lodge, Suite, Clubhouse, Pro shop, and 1 more.

Origins

Lincoln Golf Club was founded in 1891 and initially played on common land west of Lincoln. In 1903 the club moved to its present Torksey site and commissioned J.H. Taylor to lay out the new course.

Design Philosophy

Taylor specifically praised the Torksey property's pure sandy subsoil and the turf it produced. That geology became a defining characteristic of the course and contributes to its ability to remain playable through much of the year.

Development

The move to Torksey in 1903 established the club on its permanent site. A notable later episode was a 1967 exhibition involving Tony Jacklin, while the club marked its centenary in 1991 and 125th anniversary in 2016.

Recognition

The club's competitive history includes hosting the England Golf Reid Trophy in 2022.

Today

Lincoln remains at Torksey, where the J.H. Taylor course operates as an 18-hole par-71 layout.
