About Lindenwood Golf Club

Lindenwood Golf Club is a public golf facility in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, about 25 minutes south of Pittsburgh. Its championship golf consists of three nine-hole layouts — Red, Gold and Blue — that are paired to create Red/Gold, Red/Blue and Gold/Blue 18-hole combinations. The first nine was opened by J.

Russell "Russ" Wylie in 1965, followed by a second nine in 1967. A third championship nine was added in 1993 through the work of Russ Wylie and his son David Wylie, expanding Lindenwood to 27 championship holes. The official course-rating table lists five tee colours plus separate women's Red ratings for each 18-hole combination; the most difficult published setup is the Black tees on Red/Blue at 72.8/132.

Designed by J. Russell Wylie and David J. Wylie, the course originally opened in 1965. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Area, Practice Bunker, Golf Lessons, Golf Shop, Clubhouse, Banquet Facility, and 3 more.

Origins

Lindenwood grew out of J. Russell "Russ" Wylie's decision to enter the public-golf business after encountering an enormous queue at a South Park course in the 1950s. Wylie, then working in his family's dairy business, first built Rolling Green Golf Course in nearby Eighty Four.

He subsequently developed Lindenwood in North Strabane Township. The first nine opened in 1965, establishing the club as another public alternative for golfers south of Pittsburgh. A second nine followed in 1967, giving Lindenwood a full 18-hole operation.

Did You Know?
Lindenwood grew from nine holes in 1965 to 27 championship holes through three separate stages of development by the Wylie family.

Design Philosophy

Lindenwood evolved as three regulation-length nines rather than through replacement of its original routing. The current Red, Gold and Blue courses are paired in different combinations, allowing the same property to provide three distinct 18-hole configurations. The official rating system reflects that structure, publishing separate USGA course ratings and slopes for Red/Gold, Red/Blue and Gold/Blue.

The layouts use the rolling terrain of southwestern Pennsylvania, and current practice infrastructure includes a driving range and areas for putting, chipping and bunker work.

Development

The Wylie family continued expanding Lindenwood after the original 18 holes were established. David Wylie, Russ Wylie's son and business partner, was closely involved in the next stage. In 1993, a third nine opened, bringing the championship course inventory to 27 holes.

Modern golf references credit that Blue nine to J. Russell Wylie and David J. Wylie.

More recently, Lindenwood added Deer Tracks, a separate six-hole walking layout measuring 1,200 yards. Its holes range from 115 to 325 yards and it is positioned for juniors, families, practice and golfers seeking a shorter round.

Today

Lindenwood remains a public, family-established golf operation in Canonsburg. The official site describes the core property as a 27-hole championship layout and provides online public tee-time booking. Its three regulation nines continue to be used in Red/Gold, Red/Blue and Gold/Blue combinations, while Deer Tracks adds a six-hole walking option.

The facility supports golf instruction and practice and also accommodates outings, wedding receptions and other functions for groups of up to 180 people.
