Longleaf Golf & Family Club is an 18-hole semi-private course in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Dan Maples designed the original course after purchasing approximately 170 acres of the former horse-training property, and Longleaf held its grand opening in November 1988. S.
Kids Golf Foundation acquired the club in 2015 and subsequently repositioned it around family and junior golf. Architect Bill Bergin remodeled the course, including new MiniVerde Bermuda greens. Longleaf is also home to the Longleaf Tee System, which scales each hole through seven primary numbered tee positions plus mixed combinations so players can select a distance appropriate to their ability rather than age or gender.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,684 yards, course rating 72.4 and slope rating 132. Designed by Dan Maples, the course originally opened in 1988. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Practice Areas, U.S. Kids Golf Academy, Golf Lessons, Bottlebrush Short Course, Restaurant, Bar, and 4 more.
A development group acquired the property in 1987 and sold approximately 170 acres to architect Dan Maples. Maples developed a course and associated recreation facilities, with construction beginning in early 1988 and the course opening that November.
The present clubhouse was completed in 1990. S. Kids Golf Foundation purchased Longleaf and redirected the club toward family and junior golf.
Bill Bergin later remodeled the course, while the Longleaf Tee System was introduced to scale holes by player ability.
Longleaf combines public tee times with memberships and operates the U.S. Kids Golf Academy, the main 18-hole course and the six-hole Bottlebrush short course.
