Lost Canyons Golf Course was a 36-hole public facility in Simi Valley, California, comprising two separate Pete Dye-designed layouts, the Sky Course and Shadow Course, with Fred Couples serving as a design consultant. Both courses were par 72. The Sky Course occupied the higher ridgelines and measured as long as 7,285 yards, while the Shadow Course followed the canyon floor and reached 7,005 yards.
The property was notable for unusually rugged terrain and the logistical challenges created by its canyon setting. Wildfires and flooding damaged bridges and other infrastructure during the facility's operating life. Both layouts received early recognition from GOLF Magazine among its best new courses.
The course is a 36-hole golf course. The course was designed by Pete Dye and Fred Couples. It is open to the public.
Lost Canyons was developed in the rugged hills of Simi Valley as a 36-hole public golf complex. Landmark Land Co. developed the property, with Pete Dye responsible for the golf architecture and Fred Couples providing consulting input.
The two courses occupied markedly different elevations on the same canyon property.
Dye used the property's extreme canyon topography to distinguish the two layouts. The Sky Course followed elevated ridgelines, while the Shadow Course occupied lower canyon terrain. Both were par-72 layouts, with the Sky reaching 7,285 yards and the Shadow 7,005 yards from their longest published tees.
The facility was repeatedly challenged by natural events, including wildfire and flooding that damaged bridges used to connect portions of the property. Lost Canyons closed in June 2016. Plans subsequently advanced for residential development on part of the former course property.
Both layouts attracted national attention soon after opening, with the Sky and Shadow courses appearing on GOLF Magazine best-new-course lists.
Lost Canyons is no longer an operating golf facility; the two courses closed in 2016.
