Macdonald Cardrona's course was designed by Dave Thomas in 2001 as the golf component of the Cardrona resort in the Tweed Valley.
Thomas created an inland championship layout with broad changes of direction, parkland and woodland sections and USGA-style greens. Multiple teeing positions allow the course to range from just over 6,100 yards to 7,010 yards.
Cardrona moved into professional tournament golf within a few years of its creation, hosting EuroPro and European Challenge Tour events during the 2000s.
The course remains an 18-hole, par-72 resort layout available to visitors, hotel guests, members and golf groups.
