Golf Course Architect
Dave Thomas (David Charles Thomas, 1934–2013) was a distinguished Welsh professional golfer who later became a highly regarded golf course architect. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1934, he achieved notable success on the European circuit, including runner‑up finishes at The Open Championship in 1958 and 1966, and played in four Ryder Cups.
Following a playing career curtailed by injury, he established a design practice and went on to create or renovate over 100 courses worldwide. His designs include courses such as Slaley Hall (England), Macdonald Spey Valley and Cardrona (Scotland), and Almenara Golf Resort (Spain), among others.
His work is noted for integrating natural landscapes with strategic bunkering and playability for a range of golfers.
