Mad River Golf Club is a member-owned 18-hole course near Creemore, Ontario. Peter Barnard, Wil Matthews and Ray Richards established the concept before construction began in 1990, seeking a family-oriented golf club focused on the course rather than country-club formality. They hired architect Bob Cupp, formerly Jack Nicklaus's chief of design, to route the course across rolling countryside containing both open ground and wooded areas.
Mad River opened in 1991. Its current interactive course tour publishes a Gold-tee card of 7,067 yards and par 72, with five additional tee sets reducing the distance to 5,012 yards. Cupp specifically identified the property's mounds, ridges and resulting counterslopes as central to the design.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,462m (7,067 yards). Designed by Bob Cupp, the course originally opened in 1991. It is a private members-only club. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Restaurant, Practice Facilities.
Before construction began in 1990, Peter Barnard, Wil Matthews and Ray Richards established the concept for a family-oriented, member-owned golf club focused primarily on golf. They selected Bob Cupp to design the course.
Cupp used the property's substantial mounds and small ridges to create counterslopes and strategic choices. Nine greens are elevated to varying degrees above their fairways, increasing the importance of approach control and short-game recovery.
The course opened in 1991 and developed as a member-owned club rather than a conventional resort or residential country club.
Mad River was ranked 38th in SCOREGolf's 2022 Top 100 Golf Courses in Canada and 18th in Golfweek's 2021 Top 100 International Modern Courses, according to the club.
Mad River remains member-owned and operates an 18-hole, par-72 course with six principal published tee distances.
