Maple Downs Golf & Country Club is a private 18-hole club in the Maple area north of Toronto, Ontario. It was established in 1954 by Jewish golfers who had encountered exclusion at other private clubs and sought to create an inclusive, family-oriented club. William F.
Mitchell designed the original course on the rolling Oak Ridges Moraine. The current published back-tee card measures 6,783 yards at par 72, rated 71.7 with a slope of 133; additional Silver, White and Yellow courses are also rated. The architecture has evolved through work by Graham Cooke, Doug Carrick and Ian Andrew, with Andrew's later work focused on recovering and strengthening characteristics of Mitchell's original design.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,203m (6,783 yards), course rating 71.7 and slope rating 133. Designed by William F. Mitchell, the course originally opened in 1954. It is a private members' club. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Driving Range, Putting Green, Short Course, Golf Lessons, Club Hire, Golf Cart Hire, Restaurant.
Maple Downs was established in 1954 by Jewish golf enthusiasts who had encountered exclusion from other private clubs in the Toronto area. They created a family-oriented private club and commissioned American architect William F. Mitchell to design its golf course.
Mitchell routed the course across the rolling ground of the Oak Ridges Moraine. Ian Andrew's later work has been restoration-oriented, seeking to recover and emphasise characteristics of Mitchell's original architecture rather than replace its fundamental identity.
Graham Cooke and Doug Carrick have both been associated with course upgrades. Ian Andrew later undertook additional restoration work and designed a three-hole short course intended to support practice and junior golf.
Maple Downs has appeared in Canadian course-ranking discussions and the club describes itself as a recurring member of Canada's Top 100 lists.
Maple Downs remains a private golf and country club with a full 18-hole course, practice range, short course, instruction and broader clubhouse facilities.
