Marion Golf Club is a public nine-hole course in Marion, Massachusetts, established in 1904 and designed by George C. Thomas Jr. It is historically significant as Thomas's first golf-course design, decades before his better-known work at Riviera, Bel-Air and Los Angeles Country Club.
The present course measures 2,695 yards and plays to par 34. Its routing crosses former farmland and retains old stone walls from the property's agricultural use. The USGA reports that family friend William Bullivant asked the young Thomas to lay out the course.

Marion's architectural importance comes from an unlikely beginning. Family friend William Bullivant asked the young George C. Thomas Jr.
to lay out a golf course on former farmland in Marion. The course opened in 1904, becoming Thomas's first golf-design project before his later work at Riviera, Bel-Air and Los Angeles Country Club.
The compact routing uses the existing agricultural landscape rather than erasing it. Stone walls left from the property's farming history remain in play, and the nine-hole course covers only about 2,695 yards while retaining a varied par-34 sequence.
The course survived for many years under longtime operators Bruce and Sue Carlson, who maintained it on limited resources. After their retirement, Jeremiah Daly, Michael Kane and Will Fulton assumed the lease and invested in equipment and irrigation with the aim of preserving the historic Thomas layout rather than substantially redesigning it.
The USGA highlighted Marion in 2023 for its architectural pedigree and survival as a substantially intact early Thomas design.
Marion remains a public, nine-hole, year-round golf course. Its informal operating model and public access distinguish it from many surviving Golden Age designs.
