About Nefyn Golf Club - Championship Course

Nefyn Golf Club's current Championship Course combines the Front and New loops of the club's distinctive 27-hole layout on the Llŷn Peninsula. The Front nine is a par-35, 3,164-yard loop that runs from the clubhouse towards the Irish Sea and follows the clifftop coastline before turning inland. The New nine is a par-36, 3,356-yard inland loop, giving the Championship combination a total par of 71 and published length of 6,520 yards.

This is distinct from Nefyn's Old nine, better known as the Point, which occupies the narrow promontory and is offered as an additional nine-hole component rather than part of the current standard Championship 18. The club traces its golf history to 1907, when it began with nine holes, and has subsequently developed into three nine-hole loops. Facilities include practice areas, a clubhouse, bar and restaurant.

The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 71, 5,961m (6,520 yards). It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Practice facilities, Bar, Restaurant, Clubhouse.

Origins

Golf at Nefyn dates to 1907, when the club began with a nine-hole course. Over more than a century the property developed into 27 holes arranged as three distinct loops rather than a conventional single 18-hole course.

Did You Know?
The famous Point is not part of Nefyn's current standard Championship 18; it is the separate Old nine.

Design Philosophy

The modern Championship combination uses two contrasting loops. The Front follows the exposed coastline and clifftop ground, while the New loop occupies a more inland part of the property. The routing therefore changes character significantly between the two halves.

Development

Nefyn ultimately developed three loops named Front, New and Old. The Old is the celebrated Point nine on the narrow headland. Under the club's current configuration, Front and New make up the 18-hole Championship Course while the Point can be added as an extra nine.

Today

The club operates 27 holes. Its Front loop is listed at 3,164 yards and par 35, the New at 3,356 yards and par 36, and the Old/Point at 2,508 yards and par 33.
