Origins

The club established its course on the exposed headland at La Perouse overlooking Botany Bay. Alister MacKenzie produced the original routing and the course opened in 1928.

Design Philosophy

MacKenzie's routing used the coastal ridges, valleys and exposed ground around Henry Head to create strategic angles rather than relying only on length. The course's most distinctive architectural identity comes from the interaction of its holes with the natural contours and coastal setting.

Development

The layout has been revised by several architects over its life. The club's current official account highlights a recent remastering by Mackenzie & Ebert intended to renew the strategic qualities of the historic course.

Recognition

New South Wales has long appeared in Australian and international course rankings and has hosted major championship golf, including the Australian Open.

Today

It remains a private members' club with limited visitor access, maintaining a highly controlled guest policy while preserving the historic coastal course.
