The Portland Course is Royal Troon's second 18-hole layout, running inland from the better-known Old Course at Troon. It is an 18-hole links course playing to par 71. Published course information lists a longest regular distance of 6,349 yards with a 71.6 course rating.
Willie Fernie is credited with the original Portland layout, while Alister MacKenzie substantially redesigned and rerouted it in 1921, giving the course its present architectural identity. Unlike the Old Course, Portland circulates principally inland, east and south of Royal Troon's main championship routing, but it remains part of the same coastal links property. Royal Troon also has the nine-hole Craigend course, so Portland's measurements and history should not be merged with either of those layouts.
