Origins

Radyr was founded in September 1902 with Lord Windsor as president after he donated the land for the course. E. Shaw became the first captain.

B. Fernie, professional at Glamorganshire Golf Club, laid out the original course, and all 18 holes were ready for play by February 1903.

Design Philosophy

The decisive architectural change came in 1912 when Harry S. Colt was commissioned to redesign the course. Colt's work transformed the early layout and remains the basis of Radyr's modern routing.

Development

The original clubhouse, relocated from the defunct Llanishen club, was destroyed by fire in 1909 and replaced on the present Drysgol Road site. During the Second World War the clubhouse was requisitioned and several holes were ploughed for food production.

Recognition

Radyr has been ranked by Golf World among its GB&I parkland courses and among courses in Wales.

Today

The club remains an 18-hole members' parkland course while providing visitor access on specified days.
