RAF Lakenheath's golf course dates to 1961, when it opened as Lakenheath Golf Club to serve personnel stationed at the air base. It was built on Breckland terrain — the sandy, heather-covered heathland characteristic of this part of Suffolk — making use of naturally free-draining soil that keeps the course playable through the region's wetter months. The club was later renamed Breckland Pines Golf Course, the name it carries today.
The clubhouse in current use dates to 1984, housing the Breckland Pines Grill & Steakhouse alongside the course's pro shop and practice facilities.
