Origins

The course grew out of infrastructure development rather than an established golf club. R. Hornibrook Company, then building the Hornibrook Highway, purchased about 166 acres of predominantly farming land at Clontarf with the idea of establishing a golf course near the northern end of the new crossing.

Construction began in March 1935 under designer Stan Francis, and the Peninsula Country Golf Club course opened in August 1936.

Did You Know?
The golf-course project was conceived by directors of the company building the Hornibrook Highway as the new bridge transformed access to Clontarf.

Development

Royal Queensland Golf Club acquired the freehold in 1957. Redcliffe Golf Club was formed at a community meeting on 15 September 1960 and initially relied on allocated playing times. The club secured a lease in 1966, a longer lease in 1971 and ultimately bought the freehold in 1980.

A broad course upgrade followed, and the ninth and tenth holes were rebuilt in 1985 to reduce ball damage to neighbouring property.

Recognition

The club received the Metropolitan Golf Club of the Year award at the 2007 PGA Awards.

Today

Redcliffe is now a visitor-accessible par-71 course with online social-golf booking, an established membership, practice facilities and clubhouse dining.
