About Reef Course

The Reef Course is an 18-hole, par-72 resort course in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the course, which entered service in December 2000.

Origins

The Reef was created as part of Grand Bahama's resort-golf infrastructure at Freeport. Grand Bahama tourism records that the 18-hole course became part of the island's landscape in December 2000, with Robert Trent Jones Jr. responsible for the design.

Design Philosophy

Jones used a contemporary links-style concept on relatively open Bahamian terrain. The course has broad fairways and large, comparatively level greens, but large bunkers, water on 13 holes and variable ocean winds supply much of its defence.

Development

The Reef became associated with the resort complex later known as Grand Lucayan and has been marketed alongside the island's hotel and tourism facilities.

Recognition

The official Bahamas tourism authority describes the course as having been named among the world's Top 100 courses. The same source identifies it as a Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship course.

Today

The Reef remains listed by the Bahamas Golf Federation and Bahamas tourism authorities as an 18-hole course in Freeport. It serves resort visitors and other golfers, with published federation rates rather than a members-only access model.
