Origins

Royal Isabela grew from a project by Puerto Rican brothers Stanley and Charles Pasarell, former tennis professionals who turned their attention to golf and resort development. They worked with architect David W. Pfaff on the course.

Historical accounts describe the golf layout opening in spring 2011, before the resort's broader 2012 opening.

Did You Know?
The Naturals tee on the sixth can be played as either a 493-yard par four or a 622-yard par five, changing the overall course from par 72 to par 73.

Design Philosophy

The course was fitted into approximately 426 acres of coastal land, with golf sharing the property with areas managed for conservation. Its routing uses the cliff-edge terrain and allows unusual flexibility, most notably at the sixth hole where the back configuration can be played as either a par four or a longer par five.

Development

Royal Isabela subsequently developed lodging, dining, an organic farm and other resort amenities around the golf course while retaining the course as one of the property's defining elements.

Recognition

Early coverage included Robb Report's 2012 Best of the Best recognition and Golf Magazine attention among new courses. The course has continued to attract coverage for its coastal setting and unconventional design.

Today

Royal Isabela operates as both a resort golf facility and membership club while accepting public tee-time bookings. The club currently offers daily play from 8 a.m., with Mondays closed seasonally from mid-April through mid-November.
