Origins

The concept originated with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who in 1982 initiated a government task force to create a major golf club near Kuala Lumpur as part of efforts to attract investors and industrialists. Construction began in 1983 on former palm and rubber plantation land.

Design Philosophy

Ronald Fream used the plantation's rolling ground to create two separate championship layouts characterised by changes in elevation, bunkering, mounds, lakes and mature tropical vegetation.

Development

The Palm Course was completed in mid-1985 and the original Orchid Course, later Bunga Raya, in December 1985. The clubhouse opened in February 1986. Ted Parslow later redesigned Bunga Raya, while the Palm also underwent subsequent upgrading work.

Recognition

Saujana has a long record of international professional and amateur tournament golf and has been part of the European Tour Destinations network.

Today

The club operates two 18-hole championship courses with member-focused access and associated hotel and country-club facilities.
