About Sentosa Golf Club - The New Tanjong

The New Tanjong is one of Sentosa Golf Club's two 18-hole courses in Singapore. The current layout was created in 2016 through a comprehensive redevelopment led by Andrew Johnston and Matt Swanson; contemporary reporting noted that no two holes or lakes remained in the same locations as on the former Tanjong. The course is par 72 and was designed with broad sand features influenced by Australian Sandbelt golf.

It subsequently received further targeted changes in 2021, including work to the third, fourth and fifth holes. The Tanjong has become a major tournament venue, hosting the HSBC Women's World Championship and the inaugural Women's Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, as well as the 2018 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. Singapore Golf Association ratings list the blue men's tees at CR 71.9/SR 138, white men's tees at 69.5/129, and red women's tees at 73.5/136.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Designed by Frank Pennink, the course originally opened in 2016. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Full Membership, Corporate Membership, Practice facilities, Clubhouse, Pro shop, Terrace, Restaurant, Golf carts.

Origins

The current Tanjong occupies the site of Sentosa Golf Club's older Tanjong layout, which had existed for roughly four decades before the club elected to undertake a complete redevelopment.

Did You Know?
The 2016 redevelopment was so extensive that the designer said no two holes or lakes remained in the same place.

Design Philosophy

Andrew Johnston and Matt Swanson rebuilt the course with large-scale bunkering influenced by Australian Sandbelt architecture. The redesign was not a cosmetic renovation: the routing, lakes and individual holes were comprehensively reconstructed.

Development

The rebuilt course opened in 2016. Further changes in 2021 included a new third green, an addition to the fourth green and modifications to the fifth-hole tee complex.

Recognition

Soon after reopening, the New Tanjong became an international championship venue, hosting major women's professional and amateur events as well as the Asia-Pacific Amateur.

Today

The Tanjong operates alongside The Serapong as Sentosa Golf Club's second championship course and continues to serve as a tournament and member-golf venue.
