Whistling Thorn at Serengeti Estates is currently presented by the estate as an 18-hole par-3 championship course and as a separate layout from Serengeti's Jack Nicklaus Signature championship course. This distinction is important because older course databases contain a nine-hole par-36 card under the Whistling Thorn name; that information conflicts with the current operator's description and has not been imported. Serengeti describes the present Whistling Thorn as South Africa's first 18-hole par-3 championship course.
The wider golf facility also includes the Jack Nicklaus Signature course, Cubs Course, Shamrock nine-hole putting complex, driving range, golf academy and pro shop. Visitors as well as residents are explicitly referenced by the estate in relation to Whistling Thorn. Because a current official hole-by-hole scorecard was not located in accessible text, individual hole lengths and stroke indexes are intentionally omitted rather than borrowing data from the older nine-hole configuration.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, Golf academy, Pro shop, Putting complex.
Serengeti's present golf offering distinguishes Whistling Thorn from its Jack Nicklaus Signature championship course and from the Cubs junior course.
The estate describes Whistling Thorn as an 18-hole par-3 championship course and the first such championship layout in South Africa.
