Development

Operation was placed under a management agreement in 1994. Environmental management became another part of the course's identity when Audubon International certified Southwinds as a Cooperative Sanctuary in April 2009; it was recertified in September 2014. A major county-funded renovation began in 2025, replacing the original 1970s irrigation system and renovating greens and tee areas while also undertaking selective tree removal and bunker reconstruction with new sand.

Palm Beach County's 2025 annual report records a ceremonial reopening on October 18, with additional grow-in work continuing into 2026.

Recognition

Southwinds became the 94th golf course in Florida and 689th worldwide to receive its Audubon International Certified Cooperative Sanctuary designation in April 2009.

Today

Southwinds remains an 18-hole public course in Palm Beach County's golf system. It operates alongside an aqua driving range, practice greens, bunker practice, instruction and pro-shop services, with public tee times available online.
