The Ocean Course at The Els Club Desaru Coast is a 27-hole golf complex in Johor designed by Ernie Els. It was the first golf course to open within the Desaru Coast development and consists of three nine-hole loops, allowing different 18-hole combinations rather than one permanent championship routing. This distinction is important for database purposes because yardage, par, rating and scorecard totals depend on which two nines are paired.
The property occupies coastal terrain overlooking the South China Sea and was conceived as the first Desaru Coast chapter of The Els Club Malaysia. The Ocean Course should also be kept completely separate from the neighbouring Valley Course, an 18-hole Vijay Singh/Ernie Els Design project that opened later. Resort facilities shared around The Els Club Desaru Coast include instruction, dining, practice facilities and accommodation within the broader destination.
The course is a 27-hole resort golf course. The course was designed by Ernie Els. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Golf Academy, Pro Shop, Putting Green, Restaurant, Caddies.
The Ocean Course was developed as the first golf component of The Els Club at Desaru Coast. Ernie Els designed three separate nine-hole loops for the coastal property.
The three-nine configuration provides multiple 18-hole combinations and allows the routing to interact with different parts of the coastal site rather than forcing all play into one fixed circuit.
The later opening of the separate 18-hole Valley Course expanded The Els Club Desaru Coast beyond the original Ocean Course without altering the Ocean's three-nine identity.
The Ocean Course remains a 27-hole Ernie Els design operating alongside, but independently from, the 18-hole Valley Course.
