About The Gleneagles - PGA Centenary Course

The PGA Centenary Course is Gleneagles' Jack Nicklaus-designed championship layout. It opened in 1993 as the Monarch's Course and was subsequently renamed the PGA Centenary. Gleneagles currently lists 6,815 yards from the white markers, while championship tournament configurations have extended beyond 7,200 yards.

The par-72 course hosted the 2014 Ryder Cup and 2019 Solheim Cup, making Gleneagles the only European golf resort to have staged both events. Nicklaus designed the course as a modern championship test on the Perthshire property, and the holes carry individual Scots names including Bracken Brae, Wester Greenwells, Schiehallion, Gowden Beastie and Crookit Cratur. The layout has been altered since its original opening to accommodate championship golf and spectator requirements.

The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,232m (6,815 yards). Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course originally opened in 1993. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Golf Academy, Practice Facilities, Pro Shop, Clubhouse, Resort Accommodation, Restaurants, Lodge, and 5 more.

Origins

Gleneagles commissioned Jack Nicklaus to create a modern championship course alongside its established James Braid layouts. Nicklaus designed and opened the Monarch's Course in 1993.

Did You Know?
The course opened as the Monarch's Course before being renamed the PGA Centenary Course.

Design Philosophy

Nicklaus used the site's broad Perthshire landscape to create a course capable of testing elite players while retaining multiple playing options for resort golfers. The routing incorporates elevation, wetlands and substantial bunkering.

Development

The Monarch's Course was renamed the PGA Centenary and underwent changes associated with its development as a major team-event venue.

Recognition

Its staging of the 2014 Ryder Cup and 2019 Solheim Cup gave Gleneagles the distinction of hosting both leading men's and women's transatlantic team competitions.

Today

The PGA Centenary remains Gleneagles' modern tournament course alongside the King's and Queen's.
