Jack William Nicklaus (born January 21, 1940, Columbus, Ohio) is widely regarded as the greatest professional golfer ever and has built a parallel legacy as one of the world’s most prolific and influential golf course designers. After establishing Nicklaus Design in the 1970s—a firm he heads as of 2026—Nicklaus has had a hand in designing or renovating hundreds of courses across more than 40 countries, including prestigious Signature-level projects and collaborative early efforts with Pete Dye and Desmond Muirhead.
His design work spans championship layouts and resort-driven developments, balancing strategic challenge with aesthetic integration into natural landscapes. Among his notable works are The Kinloch Club in New Zealand (opened 2007)—the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in that country—and Sailfish Point in Stuart, Florida (opened 1981), which has remained under his design stewardship for over four decades, including a major renovation in 2021.
