Origins

The course was conceived as the golf amenity for a D.R. Horton master-planned residential community at Fleming Island. Bobby Weed was responsible for the original golf-course design.

Design Philosophy

Weed divided the property into contrasting golfing environments. The opening nine is comparatively open, with links-style shaping and an emphasis on exposed landforms, while the second nine moves through former timberland and assumes a more enclosed parkland character. His firm's account describes the project as being intended to accommodate a broad range of golfers rather than being designed solely around elite play.
