Tradition Golf Club is a private, invitation-only golf club in La Quinta, California. Arnold Palmer and his design company began construction after Sienna Corporation acquired the property in 1996, and the golf course and clubhouse opened in the 1997-1998 period. The 18-hole course plays to par 72.
A published scorecard lists the Palmer tees at 6,895 yards with a 72.6 course rating and 138 slope, with additional Tradition, Combo II, Deacon, Charger and Hacienda tee options. Palmer's routing uses the natural changes in elevation at the base of the mountains along with bunkering, water features and varied green complexes. The practice facility includes a double-ended range, target greens, short-game greens, bunkers and a large putting green.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,305m (6,895 yards), course rating 72.6 and slope rating 138. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the course originally opened in 1997. It is a private members-only club. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Short Game Area, Practice Bunkers, Putting Green, Golf Lessons, Caddies, Restaurant, Fitness Facilities.
The property has a history predating the golf club, including a 1902 homestead. After passing through several owners and developers, Sienna Corporation acquired it in 1996 and partnered with Arnold Palmer and his design company to begin construction of Tradition.
Palmer used the property's bends, elevation changes and mountain setting as the foundation of the routing. The course incorporates substantial bunkering, water features and varied green complexes while maintaining multiple tee options.
The golf course and clubhouse opened during 1997-1998. In 2008 Tradition changed from developer ownership to a member-owned equity-club structure.
The club became a Platinum Club of America in 2017 and states that Golf Digest has ranked the course among notable Arnold Palmer designs.
Tradition remains a private, invitation-only member-owned club in La Quinta.
