Trump National Golf Club Charlotte is a private, 18-hole golf club on Lake Norman in Mooresville, North Carolina. The par-72 course was originally designed by Greg Norman and opened in 1999 as part of The Point Lake and Golf Club. Its current official hole-by-hole tour totals 7,425 yards from the back tees, with more than half of the holes playing beside, in view of or across Lake Norman.
The Black course is rated 76.1 with a slope of 147, while additional tees reduce the playing length to 7,014, 6,450, 5,811 and 5,020 yards. The Trump Organization acquired The Point in 2012, renamed it Trump National Golf Club Charlotte and undertook substantial course and clubhouse improvements during 2012 and 2013, including replacement greens and bunker renovations. The club also has the Fazio Five, a separate five-hole par-3 short-game course designed by Tommy Fazio II.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 7,425 yards, course rating 76.1 and slope rating 147. Designed by Greg Norman and Tommy Fazio II, the course originally opened in 1999. It is a private members' club. On-site facilities include Social Membership, Junior Membership, Practice Facility, Short Game Complex, Fazio Five Par-3 Course, Golf Shop, Golf Lessons, Restaurant, and 5 more.
The course originated as the golf centerpiece of The Point, a residential community on a peninsula extending into Lake Norman near Mooresville. Greg Norman Golf Course Design created the 18-hole layout, which opened in 1999 as The Point Lake and Golf Club. Norman used the site's relationship with Lake Norman as the central element of the routing, placing a large proportion of the golf directly beside the shoreline rather than treating the lake simply as a distant backdrop.
The private club became part of a residential development eventually containing more than 1,000 homes.
Norman's routing repeatedly brings Lake Norman into both the view and the line of play. Trump Golf states that more than half the holes play alongside, in view of or over the lake, with tree-lined fairways and substantial bunkering providing a counterpoint to the water. The official course tour shows the pattern particularly clearly through the closing nine: water influences approaches at several holes and becomes central to the risk-reward decision at the par-5 16th, where players can challenge Lake Norman on their second shot or lay up to a separate landing area.
The finishing 18th also plays directly beside the lake.
The Trump Organization acquired The Point Lake and Golf Club in April 2012 and rebranded the property as Trump National Golf Club Charlotte. The purchase was followed by a substantial renovation program. Contemporary Lake Norman reporting described replacement greens designed to withstand summer heat and renovation of the course's bunkers, while Business North Carolina reported a roughly $3 million course update involving greens and tees.
Greg Norman returned to the property and played the renovated course with Donald Trump in August 2013. The redevelopment extended beyond the championship course to the club's buildings and recreational amenities. A later golf addition was the Fazio Five, a separate five-hole par-3 short-game complex designed by Tommy Fazio II on the Lake Norman shoreline.
The course has continued to receive recognition from regional and national golf publications. Golf Digest describes Norman's design as combining the visual impact of Lake Norman with a playable routing incorporating water and elevation changes. The club itself lists recognition including Best Golf Course in the State from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, Best Experience from the North Carolina Golf Raters Panel, and multiple Best Golf Course awards from Lake Norman-area publications.
Trump National Charlotte remains a private, members-only club on Lake Norman. The main golf offering is the 18-hole Greg Norman course, supported by the Fazio Five short course, practice facilities and a golf shop. The broader club includes tennis facilities, fitness and aquatics facilities, a spa, dining and event spaces.
Unlike public Trump Golf properties, normal access to the Charlotte course is through private-club membership rather than published daily green fees.
