About Victoria Golf Resort

Victoria Golf Resort at Digana in Sri Lanka's Kandy region is an 18-hole, par-73 championship course designed by Donald Steel. The resort's official golf page gives a championship length of 6,933 yards and places the course within a roughly 500-acre resort property near the Victoria Reservoir. The terrain is strongly undulating rather than flat, and the golf operation is integrated with resort accommodation and other recreational facilities.

Victoria's golf facilities include a golf academy and practice facilities as well as an on-site pro shop. The resort accepts visiting golfers and provides dedicated golf-event and pro-shop contacts. Published historical sources disagree over whether 1997 represents the course's opening or its design/construction period, while other sources give 1999 as the opening year; consequently no opening year is assigned here without stronger primary documentation.

The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 73, 6,933 yards. The course was designed by Donald Steel. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Golf academy, Practice facilities, Pro shop, Accommodation, Restaurant, Swimming pool.

Origins

The golf course was developed as the centrepiece of a large resort property at Digana in Sri Lanka's central highlands. Donald Steel was commissioned to design the championship layout on the naturally undulating site near Victoria Reservoir.

Design Philosophy

Steel's routing works with pronounced changes in elevation and the site's existing landscape rather than a level resort-course template. The reservoir and surrounding hills form part of the setting throughout the property.

Recognition

Victoria has been repeatedly promoted and ranked within Sri Lankan and Asian golf travel publications, while the resort itself describes the course as an award-winning Donald Steel design.

Today

Victoria Golf Resort operates as a 500-acre resort with an 18-hole, par-73 golf course measuring 6,933 yards from its championship markers. The golf operation includes a pro shop, academy and practice facilities and accepts visiting golfers.
