About Vietnam Golf & Country Club - West Course

Vietnam Golf & Country Club's West Course is the older of the club's two 18-hole layouts on a large wooded estate outside central Ho Chi Minh City. The official club history credits Taiwanese architect Chen King Shih with the design and describes a traditional, tree-lined woodland course. It is a par-72 layout, with the club publishing a maximum distance of 7,106 yards from the Gold professional tees; the Blue, White and Red tees are listed at 6,498, 6,043 and 5,464 yards respectively.

The West Course formed the original half of what became Vietnam's first 36-hole golf club, before Lee Trevino's East Course was added. The West hosted the Vietnam Open after its early development and again in 1997. VGCC describes itself as a semi-private golf and country club.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,498m (7,106 yards). Designed by Chen King Shih, the course originally opened in 1994. Origins

Vietnam Golf & Country Club was established in the 1990s on a large woodland estate outside Ho Chi Minh City. The West Course formed the original 18 holes and was designed by Taiwanese architect Chen King Shih. The club's narrative history dates its opening to 1994, although another block on the same official page displays November 1995, an inconsistency that should be treated cautiously.

Design Philosophy

The club describes the West as a traditional tree-lined woodland course. Its tighter corridors distinguish it from the later East Course, which was designed with more generous fairways.

Development

After the West Course established the club, six-time major champion Lee Trevino was commissioned to design a second 18-hole layout. The East Course opened in the late 1990s, creating the 36-hole complex that operates today.

Recognition

The West Course staged the Vietnam Open during the 1990s, giving the original layout an important place in the early development of tournament golf in Vietnam.

Today

The West remains one of two par-72 courses at the semi-private Vietnam Golf & Country Club, sharing a large estate and country-club facilities with the East Course.
