Origins

Gary Player's Rancho Mirage design emerged in the early 1990s as a resort-oriented desert course. The layout opened in 1991 and was conceived to retain substantial elements of the existing terrain rather than relying on severe artificial shaping.

Design Philosophy

Player emphasized playability, broad landing areas and clear sightlines. The present operator notes that greens and tees were fitted into existing landforms where practical, while waterscapes were integrated into the desert setting.

Development

The course was long associated with the Westin Mission Hills resort and is now operated and marketed as Mission Hills North.

Recognition

Golf Magazine included the course among its Top Ten New Resort Courses when it opened.

Today

Mission Hills North remains an 18-hole, par-72 public-access resort course extending to 7,062 yards.
