Gary Player (born November 1, 1935) is a South African golfing icon, celebrated as one of the greatest players ever and later becoming a highly active golf course architect. With a professional playing career marked by wins in all four majors and induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974, he transitioned into design, overseeing more than 400 golf projects worldwide through his firm, Gary Player Design, often collaborating with associates such as Jeff Myers and Jeff Lawrence.
He is known for adapting courses to local terrain and climates, emphasizing playability and environmental sustainability, evidenced in projects like Suzhou Jinji Lake International Golf Club, which features three distinct 9-hole layouts and integrates wetlands, links, and forest styles in an urban reclaimed setting.
