Slammer & Squire is an 18-hole World Golf Village course in St. Augustine, Florida. It debuted in May 1998 and now measures 6,939 yards from its longest published tees.
Architect Bobby Weed designed the layout with input from Sam Snead, nicknamed the Slammer, and Gene Sarazen, the Squire, whose nicknames supply the course name. The routing passes through native woodland and wetlands and was designed with broad fairways, contoured greens and an emphasis on approach play and the short game. World Golf Village publishes five principal tee yardages plus blended tee options on its current scorecard.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,939 yards. Designed by Bobby Weed and Gene Sarazen and Sam Snead, the course originally opened in 1998. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Golf shop, Restaurant, Practice facilities, Golf academy, Club rental, Caddie service, Forecaddie service.
Slammer & Squire was conceived as one of the golf anchors of World Golf Village, a St. Augustine development built around the history and personalities of the game. The course debuted in May 1998.
Bobby Weed served as architect while Hall of Fame players Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen contributed input, giving the project both its design pedigree and its eventual name.
World Golf Village says the design team intended to preserve the site's natural character while rewarding accurate shot-making. The routing uses broad fairways but places greater emphasis on approach play, creatively contoured greens and short-game execution. That emphasis also connects the design to the finesse associated with Snead and Sarazen.
The course has remained one of World Golf Village's two principal 18-hole layouts. Its companion course is King & Bear, an entirely separate Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus design. Current World Golf Village material continues to distinguish the two courses clearly.
Slammer & Squire's identity is closely tied to the golf-history concept behind World Golf Village and to the unusual collaboration between a professional course architect and two major-championship-winning players.
The course operates as a public-access 18-hole layout measuring 6,939 yards at World Golf Village. Current amenities across the golf operation include clubhouse dining, golf retail, rental clubs, caddie services and PGA TOUR Golf Academy instruction.
