Golf Course Architect
Daniel Gordon “Dan” Soutar (born 1882 in Carmylie, Angus, Scotland; died 1937) was a celebrated golf professional who emigrated to Australia in the early 1900s, becoming a leading figure in the sport across playing, teaching, club‑making and course architecture. After arriving in 1903, he rapidly claimed titles such as the Australian Amateur and Open, and helped found the Australian PGA.
His design work spanned many notable clubs, including Kingston Heath, Concord, Indooroopilly (St. Lucia), Bankstown, Wagga Wagga, Elanora, Avalon, Long Reef, Wentworth Falls, Armidale, and notably Maryborough in 1927.
