Golf Course Architect
Edmund B. –based golf course architect whose background in construction engineering shaped a practical and economical design approach.
He entered private practice in the late 1940s and became known for creating courses with large greens, effective natural drainage, minimal but strategic bunkering, and emphasis on maintenance ease and playability for everyday golfers. He designed or remodeled over 100 courses, across 19 states, often focusing on public and regional municipal venues.
Ault’s notable works include the Las Vegas Country Club (1967) and Etowah Valley Golf & Resort (opened 1967), among many others throughout Maryland, Virginia, central Pennsylvania, and beyond. In 1973, he joined the American Society of Golf Course Architects, later becoming a Fellow and forming the firm Ault, Clark & Associates with his son and partner Tom Clark.
His legacy is one of accessible, well-engineered and budget-conscious golf architecture.
