Golf Course Architect
Peter Alliss (1931–2020) was a celebrated English professional golfer who gained renown as the BBC’s lead golf commentator—widely dubbed “the Voice of Golf”—after retiring from competitive play. He also established himself as a prolific golf course designer, initially collaborating with Dave Thomas to create over 50 courses, including notable venues like The Belfry, before continuing design work with Clive Clark and overseeing numerous projects across the UK and Europe.
Though he is credited in connection with courses at Carnoustie—including the Championship, Burnside, Buddon courses and The Nestie—these are existing historic layouts; Alliss’s role appears tied to involvement rather than original design of those classic links.
