Lincolnshire Fields Country Club is a private, members-only, par-72, 18-hole club in Champaign, Illinois, founded in 1976. Billed as "Champaign's Club of Choice," the championship course plays 6,919 yards from the Black tees down to 5,039 yards from the Red tees, with Blue, Hybrid, and White tee options in between, offering a layout accommodating golfers of all skill levels. Beyond the course, the club is a full family-oriented country club: the 19th Hole Lounge serves small plates, craft beer, wine and cocktails in a relaxed setting, the main Dining Room offers both fine dining and casual fare, and the seasonal poolside venue Stingrays serves the club's outdoor pool, which is open through the warmer months (weather permitting) with guest privileges for members.
Tennis courts round out the recreational amenities, alongside a fully stocked golf pro shop. The club regularly hosts private events — business meetings, birthdays, holiday parties, formal dinners, and family gatherings — through its banquet and event services. Membership options include full, social, junior, and family tiers, and the club runs men's and ladies' golf events, couples golf, weekly leagues, junior golf, and private instruction alongside its championship course.

Long before it became one of central Illinois's enduring private clubs, Lincolnshire Fields was simply a stretch of Champaign County farmland waiting for a golf course architect's eye. That eye belonged to Larry Packard, whose Illinois-based design firm had already reshaped fairways across the Midwest by the time it broke ground on the property in 1976, working alongside his longtime business partner Brent Wadsworth.
The club opened as a members-only retreat for the Champaign community, built around an 18-hole parkland routing that has remained largely intact ever since. It now operates with several tiers of membership, including a non-resident category for golfers living outside the immediate area.
Packard was one of the defining figures of postwar American golf architecture. Over a career spanning more than 600 courses across five continents, he became known within the American Society of Golf Course Architects — which he served as president in 1970-71 — as the 'Father of the Modern ASGCA' for his role in shaping the organization, and as one of the first architects to speak publicly about environmental stewardship in course design, at a time when few in the industry gave it much thought.
The course's original routing stood for nearly five decades before its most significant update: in 2022, the club brought in Michigan-based architect Ray Hearn, a five-time ASGCA Design Excellence Recognition Award winner, to rebuild its bunkering. Hearn, who has built a career on high-profile restoration work, called Lincolnshire Fields 'one of the great golf clubs in Illinois' and reworked the course's sand bunkers to demand more precision from low-handicap players while keeping them fair for higher handicaps.
