About Galgorm Castle Golf Club

Galgorm Castle's Championship Castle Course is an 18-hole, par-72 parkland layout in Ballymena. Simon Gidman designed the course, which opened in 1997 within the historic Galgorm Castle estate. The rivers Maine and Braid border the course and several holes incorporate water, including five lakes and an oxbow lake beside the 14th.

Galgorm has developed into one of Northern Ireland's regular professional tournament venues. It hosted the 2020 Irish Open on the European Tour/DP World Tour, the ISPS HANDA World Invitational in 2019 and 2021-23, and numerous editions of the Northern Ireland Open. The golf operation also includes a separate six-hole pitch-and-putt course, a Himalayas-style putting green and a Toptracer driving range; those facilities should not be confused with the championship course itself.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Designed by Simon Gidman, the course originally opened in 1997. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Villa, Toptracer driving range, Putting green, Golf academy, Pro shop, Buggy hire, Club hire, Trolley hire, and 8 more.

Origins

The championship course was developed within the historic Galgorm Castle estate, using mature parkland bounded by the Maine and Braid rivers. Simon Gidman was commissioned to design the new layout.

Did You Know?
The championship course is joined by a separate six-hole pitch-and-putt course and an oversized Himalayas-style putting green.

Design Philosophy

Gidman's routing incorporates the estate's mature landscape and extensive natural and constructed water features. The two rivers, five lakes and an oxbow lake create recurring strategic elements across the course.

Development

The course opened in 1997. Galgorm expanded its clubhouse in 2013 and progressively developed its tournament infrastructure, practice facilities and wider resort golf operation.

Recognition

Galgorm became a recurring professional tournament venue from 2010 onward, eventually hosting the 2020 Irish Open and multiple editions of the ISPS HANDA World Invitational.

Today

The Championship Castle Course remains the main 18-hole layout at Galgorm, supported by a Toptracer range, academy, short-course facilities and clubhouse dining.
