Origins

Ames Golf & Country Club was formed in 1911 around a nine-hole course south of Ames. By the early 1970s the club had decided to establish a new facility. Land north of Ames was purchased in 1971 and Donald Sechrest was commissioned to design an 18-hole course there.

The present facility formally opened on Labor Day in 1974. The new property comprised 164 acres, with roughly 114 acres devoted to golf. The club later undertook a major renovation completed in 2018, updating the property and its supporting amenities while retaining the Sechrest routing.

Today

Ames Golf & Country Club remains a private member club with an 18-hole course, practice facilities, golf shop, simulator, pool, racquet sports and clubhouse dining.
